I find it an interesting study of humans thinking of the jobs that will be created to build such a monstrosity,and thinking of the people who will happily fill those jobs without a concern for what is being built.
I currently live in a western state bordering Utah and in my town I’m working on a project that initially cost 10 billion dollars but has since doubled in size,it currently employs 5000 craftsmen and associated support personnel a day, and is projected to double in the number of workers before its completion. Thankfully it’s not a data center but it does design and produce the little engines that drive the machines that are being used to slowly at first then all of the sudden enslave U.S. to the beast system.
It’s a union job and it’s federally funded meaning that almost every single person of that 5000 is making a wage above market salary,averaging $2000 a week in earnings if you permanently live here,and if you are a traveler you get an additional $1500 a week for per diem pay.
Myself personally,without the 2000 a week pay, I could not afford to live here anymore,my city and the housing market has been priced out of my range in the last 5 years,housing cost have literally doubled since covid,for a comparison,I moved to the city 11 years ago,married to a stay out home mother with a kid and one on the way, making 18 an hour and I was able to buy a house. Of course life doesn’t always happen the way we hope for and now I’m a single father of two who can’t afford a house payment and have savings in the bank without triple the wages I earned only 10 years ago.
Long convoluted story short,the financial windfall of a project like Stratos for poor people earning a living working everyday is enormous and I would hate to have to decide to build my prison to survive to be imprisoned. Does that make any sense?
All of the craftsmen & craftswomen building data centers are contributing to the millions of job losses in the USA & around the World. Increasing demand for public infrastructure electricity & public infrastructure water, sewage, & roads while creating extremely few jobs.
