You make many assertions, that while I admit I am inclined to believe, you don't provide documentation. I love footnotes & bibliographies because I need evidence. Just because I "believe" something to be true doesn't make it true. Belief is not the same as reason, facts, & hard evidence. That's what I'm asking from you. Not sure whether I should raise this, I have been extremely fortunate to have traveled the World during my working career including to Libya and to most of the Countries that people wouldn’t put on their bucket list. I am genuinely sorry to advise that the lifestyle enjoyed even by the poorest in the West, is subsidised by those in extreme poverty in most other Countries around the World. When I was younger and following a trip to Nigeria and Cameroon I sat my children down around the dining room table attempted to explain the horrors of the poverty I witnessed and how we in West have relative wealth whilst others are dying in the streets because of what we take from them. Colonialism still exists, but it’s dressed up as trade agreements or international support / alliances.
As upsetting as your article is, the harsh reality is someone pays for your/our/mine lifestyle …and it’s not you.

I always found it sad but hilarious the lies the media told about the "repressive Libyan regime" under Gaddafi. It couldn't have been farther from the truth. Especially when they tried to use sexism or economic means. Women had higher graduation rates there than in the west and long before it became a norm overall. Heck, Gaddafi had an elite female team of bodyguards. In terms of the economic side of things, it appeared he wanted to divert resources to the citizens he governed and seemed to be ahead of the curve with his desires for de-dollarization.
