The Holocaust figure - 6 million - has been analyzed, reanalyzed, and challenged before. The figure has also been substantiated countless times. Antisemitism is rooted in the contention that the Holocaust is a fiction and/or that the figure of six million is inflated. For argument's sake, let's say half that many Jews were exterminated. Is that less of a horror? We agree, I think, that a LOT of people were slaughtered for being Jewish. Concentration camps are real. I've seen them with my own eyes. And what about the other 6 million people who were killed because they were gay, "gypsies", etc. Do you think those numbers are inflated as well? Is your point that the figures were inflated for the purpose of creating Israel? I'm usually in agreement with everything you say. But given all the real antisemitism stirred up in large part because of the genocide in Gaza, this post at this time strikes me as troubling.

Additionally, I never argued that concentration camps didn’t exist. They most certainly did. I simply said all of the death figures they supplied were lies. I proved that in the article. They admitted it themselves that none of their figures were correct. There’s a ton of evidence that show these were work camps as well. Many died from Typhus.

I agree with you. Why is it important to try to make the number lower? Does that make it less of a genocide? What number is the cut off? The Germans kept meticulous records. They have lists upon lists. They made the prisoners stand in rows and count and recount them every day. They had daily lists of how many went directly to be gassed, then burned. The Einsatzgrupen were a special killing force who went to the Eastern countries. They dug pits rounded up as many Jews as possible. They all were shot in the head then fell in the pit. Including babies and children. This would go on for days. In many countries (notably Romania) their police assisted with the killings. They got creative with their killing. We can't know how many Jews were killed in these campaigns. I have read and watched complex documentaries about the Holocaust. Making an issue of the number killed is a deflection. The information is available: Books with foot notes and interviews. The people who deny the Holocaust or need to diminish it have chosen not to know facts that are available. What is a fair compensatory figure per person? I thinks it’s possible to challenge a number total but I don’t think the article really made the case. The Red Cross letter only stated the “exterminations” stopped across the camps per observations in 1944. The supporting letter in German could be referencing general camp deaths and not “exterminations” it’s a big topic that cannot remotely be credibly done in a short substack. But at the end of the day does it matter what the number is? Is the intent itself not enough to engender the same revulsion. It would have been great if the same light could have been given to the other targets on the Nazees.

I read the whole article too and it reads like Maddie is skirting carefully around saying the Holocaust didn’t happen with out saying it by casting doubt on all “facts” because some facts seem to be in question. This makes no sense to me since there are so many people who escaped to the US who have told consistent stories of their families’ persecution and murder or disappearance at the very least. There are stories from soldiers who helped liberate the camps! There’s no question the Holocaust happened. Tragically some people are using the controversy around the number of those murdered to defend anti-semitism and thereby fuel the fire against Jews. I am also against Zionism and Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians. Two things can be true at once but it seems many Americans struggle with this.

It's ontological shock. The Holocaust story is so fundamental to this society that when even the slightest doubt about it is introduced it dramatically impacts your view of the world. I felt the same when I went down this rabbit hole a while back.
Having seen Zionists lie about everything since October 7th whilst going unchallenged by the mainstream media I felt I needed to understand the counter argument to the Holocaust. After all if they are able to get away with lying about a genocide whilst it is in progress then they could do the same for one from before I was born.
I knew that 'Holocaust denial' was a thing but I didn't know the slightest thing about their argument. It was not what I was expecting. I watched some old documentaries on the subject thinking it would just be a bunch of hateful neo-Nazi nonsense or some conspiracy I could easily debunk. They were not. They were just very long, dry lists of information which I fact checked and found to be accurate.
Much of that information being stuff which is entirely absent from the mainstream narrative today. e.g. the Nuremberg trials talks about the Nazis making shrunken heads and some of the first footage from the camps shows a couple examples. So why I was never taught about that when we learned about the Holocaust in school? Why had I never heard about the shrunken heads in any of the dozens of war museums and memorials I have been to that invariably always have a large section on the Holocaust? Is it maybe because that was just atrocity propaganda which sounds laughable today? There were so many things like that which felt similar to all of the '40 beheaded babies' stories and other propaganda spewed about October 7th.
I felt bad for even looking at these films somehow but I recognized that was not rational. Why should I feel bad for listening to the other side of an argument rather than only hearing one side and being expected to believe it? I encountered the same from someone in one of the older films when they recounted their experience of going to the library to take out a book about the subject. They said how they felt nervous, how they were thinking about how the librarian was judging them but more than anything how they were worried that they were uncovering some forbidden knowledge that was going to change their world view. I think it's just a normal reaction.

If half the number of people require compensation then surely the total amount of compensation halves? Certainly I don’t remember any mention of it in Churchill’s History of the Second World War (which, being my Grandfather’s originally, likely would have been a First Edition), which one might have thought would be a place that would cite murder on this scale, especially given he was Jewish backed.

Absolutely 6 million didn't die in the holocaust. I believe about 250k died of starvation and unsanitary conditions. Most towards the end of the war when all of Germany and surrounding states were isolated and starving caused by the allied powers attacks on civilian infrastructure.

It's also worth making distinction between concentration camp and a death camp. There's no evidence at all that any of these camps were "death camps". They were work camps. While some atrocities inevitability occurred there, there was no orchestrated mass extermination of jews or anyone else.

I agree with you. Why is it important to try to make the number lower? Does that make it less of a genocide? What number is the cut off? The Germans kept meticulous records. They have lists upon lists. They made the prisoners stand in rows and count and recount them every day. They had daily lists of how many went directly to be gassed, then burned. The Einsatzgrupen were a special killing force who went to the Eastern countries. They dug pits rounded up as many Jews as possible. They all were shot in the head then fell in the pit. Including babies and children. This would go on for days. In many countries (notably Romania) their police assisted with the killings. They got creative with their killing. We can't know how many Jews were killed in these campaigns. I have read and watched complex documentaries about the Holocaust. Making an issue of the number killed is a deflection. The information is available: Books with foot notes and interviews. The people who deny the Holocaust or need to diminish it have chosen not to know facts that are available. What is a fair compensatory figure per person? I thinks it’s possible to challenge a number total but I don’t think the article really made the case. The Red Cross letter only stated the “exterminations” stopped across the camps per observations in 1944. The supporting letter in German could be referencing general camp deaths and not “exterminations” it’s a big topic that cannot remotely be credibly done in a short substack. But at the end of the day does it matter what the number is? Is the intent itself not enough to engender the same revulsion. It would have been great if the same light could have been given to the other targets on the Nazees.

I read the whole article too and it reads like Maddie is skirting carefully around saying the Holocaust didn’t happen with out saying it by casting doubt on all “facts” because some facts seem to be in question. This makes no sense to me since there are so many people who escaped to the US who have told consistent stories of their families’ persecution and murder or disappearance at the very least. There are stories from soldiers who helped liberate the camps! There’s no question the Holocaust happened. Tragically some people are using the controversy around the number of those murdered to defend anti-semitism and thereby fuel the fire against Jews. I am also against Zionism and Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians. Two things can be true at once but it seems many Americans struggle with this.

I’m going to bring this to Heather Cox Richardson, the historian who writes Letters from an American. I trust her and she will know which sources are trustworthy. It's ontological shock. The Holocaust story is so fundamental to this society that when even the slightest doubt about it is introduced it dramatically impacts your view of the world. I felt the same when I went down this rabbit hole a while back.
Having seen Zionists lie about everything since October 7th whilst going unchallenged by the mainstream media I felt I needed to understand the counter argument to the Holocaust. After all if they are able to get away with lying about a genocide whilst it is in progress then they could do the same for one from before I was born.
I knew that 'Holocaust denial' was a thing but I didn't know the slightest thing about their argument. It was not what I was expecting. I watched some old documentaries on the subject thinking it would just be a bunch of hateful neo-Nazi nonsense or some conspiracy I could easily debunk. They were not. They were just very long, dry lists of information which I fact checked and found to be accurate.
Much of that information being stuff which is entirely absent from the mainstream narrative today. e.g. the Nuremberg trials talks about the Nazis making shrunken heads and some of the first footage from the camps shows a couple examples. So why I was never taught about that when we learned about the Holocaust in school? Why had I never heard about the shrunken heads in any of the dozens of war museums and memorials I have been to that invariably always have a large section on the Holocaust? Is it maybe because that was just atrocity propaganda which sounds laughable today? There were so many things like that which felt similar to all of the '40 beheaded babies' stories and other propaganda spewed about October 7th.
I felt bad for even looking at these films somehow but I recognized that was not rational. Why should I feel bad for listening to the other side of an argument rather than only hearing one side and being expected to believe it? I encountered the same from someone in one of the older films when they recounted their experience of going to the library to take out a book about the subject. They said how they felt nervous, how they were thinking about how the librarian was judging them but more than anything how they were worried that they were uncovering some forbidden knowledge that was going to change their world view. I think it's just a normal reaction.

Your comment dismisses the lies that have been fed to us since 1945. If the 6 million was a lie, then what is the truth? Why can people not actually research it and find out the truth? In most western countries, researching the "holocaust" is illegal. Its not hard to undertake research and when you see the first neutral responders into the camps, in this case the International Red Cross, you see 271,000 people died. 271,000 people mind you, not 271,000 jews alone.
Once you look at these facts, the 6 million is quickly seen for what it is - blatant lies. Now in the 80 years post-WWII, jews have milked this 6 million in every country they are in to garner sympathy for their cause. That opening sentence is a quotation so complain to them about their choice of verb. Although these reparations are an unprecedented form of recompense, there is presumably an underlying principle of each life having a compensatory value, with the total value being the sum of all those individual life values. If half the number of people require compensation then surely the total amount of compensation halves? They would like you to believe that's a stepping stone for a "fairer" doubling of what each life is worth and therefore nothing should be done to claw back the excess. Convenient, eh? Trust me, I'm not attacking you, I'm agreeing with you in principle but the simple fact remains that according to census figures before & after WWII, in addition to published IRC figures, as well as German Nazi records, only 150K or so Jews died in the camps & most of that was due to disease & starvation at the end of the war.
That’s approximately the position I’ve got except I’m less sure of the exact figures as it’s more than 30 years since I seriously looked into WW2 as a topic. Certainly I don’t remember any mention of it in Churchill’s History of the Second World War (which, being my Grandfather’s originally, likely would have been a First Edition), which one might have thought would be a place that would cite murder on this scale, especially given he was Jewish backed.

Absolutely 6 million didn't die in the holocaust. I believe about 250k died of starvation and unsanitary conditions. Most towards the end of the war when all of Germany and surrounding states were isolated and starving caused by the allied powers attacks on civilian infrastructure.

It's also worth making distinction between concentration camp and a death camp. There's no evidence at all that any of these camps were "death camps". They were work camps. While some atrocities inevitability occurred there, there was no orchestrated mass extermination of jews or anyone else.

But even in the holocaust, there are some reports of +11million non-jewish deaths
